OIC with Syrian Refugees in Za'tari Camp, Jordan

A joint delegation from the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Jordanian Syrian Refugee Directorate visited Za'tari Syrian refugee camp in Jordan on 1 May 2018.

Mr. Stefano Severi, UNHCR Resident Representative in Jordan, reviewed the various UNHCR projects to support and meet relief, development and humanitarian needs of Syrian refugees. Mr. Severi also valued the important and vital role of many OIC Member States in supporting and assisting refugees.

In turn, the head of the OIC delegation, Amb. Hisham Yousef, Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Affairs, conveyed the greetings of the OIC Secretary General, H.E. Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, to the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. He also asserted Al-Othaimeen's deep appreciation for the outstanding role it has been undertaking in hosting and sponsoring the Syrian refugees despite the increasing challenges to Jordan's resources and potentials.

Amb. Yousef stressed the importance of continuous consultation and cooperation between the OIC General Secretariat and the UNHCR to discuss ways to increase support for refugees in the Muslim World.

The delegation acquainted itself with many projects implemented by the OIC Member States in the camp, especially Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Morocco and others. He also visited the main hospital, the social center and solar power station funded by Germany. He talked with some Syrian families to know their situation and needs to convey the same to the OIC Member States to urge them to continue their support for Syrian refugees in Jordan.
