OIC Secretary General welcomes the appointment Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi as the new Joint Special Representative for Syria
The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu welcomed the appointment of Mr. Lakhdar Brahimi as the new UN-Arab League Joint Special Representative for Syria. Secretary General stressed his conviction that, Mr. Brahimi- taking into account his vast experience at the service of the United Nations as the former Special Representative for Iraq and Afghanistan and his deep understanding and knowledge about the region- would contribute to international efforts to bring and end to the ongoing violence in Syria and eventually bring peace and stability in the country. While reiterating his hope for ending of the violence and bloodshed in Syria, the Secretary General reiterated his call on the international community to work more actively in cooperation and coordination with Mr. Brahimi towards alleviating the sufferings of the Syrian people.
