Prof. Ekmeddine Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), intends to address the Humanitarian Forum for the Benefit of Syria due to be held at the Islamic Research, History, Arts and Culture Centre (IRCICA) in Istanbul on 24 November, 2012. The gathering, which will be attended by some forty humanitarian organizations from the OIC Member States and from different parts of the world, aims at upgrading humanitarian assistance extended to Syria and its neighboring states, through more efficient aid from the Member States’ governments and humanitarian institutions, in addition to raising further resources for humanitarian relief and programs and providing an ongoing forum for a steady contact with international donors. This gathering could further constitute a new launch for efforts to brace up for any possible future developments. This humanitarian forum takes place within the framework of the OIC’s efforts to extend relief to the Syrian people, with many Member States and their humanitarian insitutions having already carried out various actions on the ground, most prominent of which, the Saudi campaign which managed to raise over 450 million Saudi Riyals last month of Ramadan.
