OIC Secretary General Meets Syria’s Permanent Representative, Welcomes Syria Leadership’s Measures And Calls For Dialogue To Redress Events’ Repercussions
Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, today, in his office at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah, met H.E. Mr Majd El-Deen Nashed, Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Organization of the Islamic Conference. During the meeting, the Secretary General welcomed the measures announced recently by the Syrian leadership to revoke the state of emergency and state security court and to regulate the right to peaceful protest. The Secretary General expressed his regrets over the death of many victims among civilians and security forces, commiserating with their families and wishing the injured quick recovery. He also underscored the need to exercise self-restraint, avoid violence, embrace wisdom, and adopt the dialogue approach with national forces in order to realize the aspirations of the Syrian people to prosperity, stability and growth. He reminded that the use of force was not the best way to resolve crisis. For his part, the Syrian envoy expressed his sincere appreciation of the Secretary General’s position in support of Syria’s security and stability and of the reform process embarked upon by the Syrian leadership.
