A Statement Issued by the Civil Society Organizations and Entities in Wadi Barada Region and the Different Revolutionary Bodies Operating within Wadi Barada Region

Official Statement

We the civil Society organizations and entities in Wadi Barada region and the different revolutionary bodies

operating within Wadi Barada region:

re-affirm our readiness to facilitate the access of technical teams from the Red Cross and the United Nations

to assess the current status of Ein Fijeh spring and facilities operating in and documenting the remnants of

rockets and weapons that were used in targeting the spring. We urge also the international organizations

invited to the above mentioned mission to hand out the results to an independent international investigation

Commission. In addition, we, the above mentioned entities and bodies, expressing our willingness and readiness

to accompany and assisting maintaining teams heading to Ein Fijeh spring to accelerate resupplying fresh water

to our people in Damascus city. This facilitation needs to be accompanied with activating the ceasefire in Wadi

Barada region and halting the aggression conducted by the Syrian government forces backed by Hezbollah militias.

We are requesting also the break of the siege against the region and allowing access of food, medicines,

and building materials.

In this regard, we are calling the urgent deployment of international observers to monitor the ceasefire process

and record violations that conducted by any party. We are recalling the recent UN Security Council Resolution

2336-issued on 31.12.2016, and as stipulated in the other Security Council resolutions, to secure the instant,

unhindered and safe access to the humanitarian agencies throughout Syria.

It is worth to mention that these vital requests have been regularly appealed to the concerned parties and

in specific the regime We also call on the United Nations and the UN Security Council and all actors in the

international community to hold their responsibilities As mentioned in the IHL for protecting the civilians

and practice this responsibilities towards the people trapped in Wadi Barada region in specific.

We are urging the international community to hold their responsibility according to the IHL and facilitating

the protecting Einf Fijeh Spring which provides water supply to five million people in Damascus and its rural

areas. Due to previous violation of the agreed truces reached with the regime we are ready to cooperate with a

commission of inquiry which can determine who was responsible for cutting off the water supply to Damascus

city, to assess the technical status of the water pumps and to monitor the maintenance of the water facility in

the spring so it will return to its functionality as soon as possible and ready to have all these functions under

the supervision of the United Nations.
