On March 15, 2011 the Syrian people decided it was enough and so they took to the streets in peaceful unarmed protests to demand their rights. The people were met by violence as the Syrian Arab Army of Bashar Al Assad attacked protestors with assault weapons, grenades, and tanks. Syrian soldiers were forced by their commanding officers to attack these unarmed civilian protests. After approximately 6 months of this some soldiers in the Syrian Arab Army of Bashar Al Assad decided that they would not take it anymore. They disobeyed their commanding officers, refusing to fire upon their own people and defected to form the Free Syrian Army. Who's purpose is to protect the unarmed civilian population from the killing squads of Bashar Al Assad.
