At least 23 fighters of the Free Syrian Army-affiliated Al-Azza Army were killed as they were trying to repel attempts by the Assad regime's forces to advance on the village of Al-Zallaqiyat in northern rural Hama. Their positions came under artillery shelling by regime forces, which also targeted nearby areas resulting in many civilian casualties. Search for missing persons continue.
The Assad regime and its allied Iranian terrorist groups have not stopped violating the Idlib Agreement since the moment it went into force. Assad forces and the Iranian militia continue to target various areas with heavy artillery and trying to advance on the liberated areas. The attacks have resulted in increasing civilian casualties.
The Syrian Coalition condemns the Assad regime’s violation of the Idlib agreement as it took place in the demilitarized zone. Russia has a responsibility for this shelling and for the continued violations of the Idlib agreement, whether through artillery or aerial bombardment or ground attacks.
The Coalition reaffirms the importance of the Idlib Agreement as it stresses the need to protect it. Guarantors of the agreement need to prevent it from being used as a means to commit more crimes and thus disrupting the political solution
