Press Release Original in arabic

June 10, 2016
The Syrian Coalition emphasizes that it stands in solidarity with any activity seeking to achieve the release of detainees in prisons of the Assad regime. The Coalition supports the “Detainees First" campaign which will be launched in the French capital Paris on Saturday. The Coalition highly praises the efforts of the organizers of the campaign.
Reports by rights groups earlier this year confirmed that the number of detainees in Syria exceeded 215,000, around 99% of whom are incarcerated by the Assad regime.
As was stated in a release by Detainees First earlier today, we are now faced with a catastrophe of a great and global magnitude. The whole world is responsible for this catastrophe in various ways, especially Russia and the United States.
The Coalition joins the voices calling on the international community, international human rights organizations, civil society organizations, and on everyone with a sense of humanitarian responsibility to stand united in the face of the perpetrators of crimes against humanity in Syria.
The Coalition highly commends efforts made by Syrians youth to support the Syrian revolution and to organize campaigns to raise awareness about the issue of detainees. The Coalition reiterates that the file of detainees will always remain a top priority as nothing on the face of earth can make up for even one minute spent by a detainee in the prisons of the Assad regime.
Mercy for the fallen heroes, recovery for the wounded, and freedom for the detainees.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
