Syrian Coalition Welcomes European Parliament’s Decision to Host ‘Caesar’ Exhibition

Press Release

Syrian Coalition

July 09, 2015

On 13 to 16 July, the European Parliament will co-host with the Syrian National Coalition and the Syrian Association for Missing and Conscience Detainees, the ‘Caesar’ exhibition. Responding to the initiative, Mouaffaq Nyrabia, the Coalition’s Representative to the Benelux and EU said:

“I am grateful to the European Parliament for its efforts to ensure this important exhibition is given the greatest platform it deserves in the EU. The harrowing evidence – endorsed by the UN’s Commission of Inquiry – highlights the full spectrum of war crimes and crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Assad regime and its militias and foreign fighters.

“The Syrian Coalition has made clear that without justice there can be no lasting peace in Syria. Sadly, despite the irrefutable and growing evidence of human rights violations, no one has been held accountable for the atrocities taking place against my people. This lack of justice has fostered a culture of impunity that has exacerbated the violence and perpetuated the Syria conflict.

“The Syrian Coalition urges the international community to pursue accountability by: ensuring protection of the human rights of all Syrians, including by stopping the unlawful use of Assad’s barrel bombs and chemical weapons; using any channels of communication with the Assad regime to demand the immediate cessation of torture being inflicted on the thousands that remain in the regime’s prisons; challenging the culture of impunity by making public the names of human rights violators and abusers about whom the international community has gathered credible evidence; and taking tangible actions that bring to justice those responsible for these heinous human rights crimes, including through further EU sanctions targeting these individuals.”
