Resignation of Baroness Valerie Amos
Press Release
Syrian Coalition
November 28, 2014
The Syrian Coalition expresses its tremendous gratitude for Baroness Valerie Amos, who will be resigning next March after four years as the UN's Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. During that period, Amos has done outstanding work leading the United Nation’s humanitarian response through a number of crises across the world. Throughout her long career in humanitarian work, Amos has been the voice of impoverished vulnerable communities in need of help in all corners of the world.
In her latest briefing to the UN Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Syria, on November 25, Baroness Amos said: “We have faced considerable challenges in implementing resolutions 2139 and 2165 and continue to fall short of meeting the humanitarian needs of all the people we aim to reach in Syria.”
On behalf of the Syrian people, the Syrian Coalition once again extends it sincere appreciation for Amos’ magnificent work, and wishes her successor all the best in trying to alleviate the suffering of people in Syria and around the world.
