Reports about Deportation of Syrian Palestinians in Tunisia
Press Release
Syrian Coalition
May 23, 2014
The Syrian Coalition is concerned over reports about the deportation of Palestinian refugees coming from Syria by authorities in Tunisia. The Palestinian League for Human Rights said “at least 19 cases of deportation [took place] since early May.”
Civilians fleeing the tyranny and excess violence of the Assad regime in Syria, including Palestinian refugees, have the right to seek asylum and protection. Governments around the world should not turn their backs on them.
The Tunisian people are an inspiration to millions of Arabs, including Syrians. The Syrian Coalition looks forward to working with the Tunisian authorities to ensure civilians escaping violence in Syria receive the protection they deserve. It is vital to remember that those vulnerable refugees face a real threat of being severely punished, including by death, at the hands of Assad’s forces upon return to Syria.
May our wounded recover, our detainees be free, and our fallen heroes rest in peace.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
