President of the Syrian Coalition Ahmad al-Jarba met with President Obama and Ambassador Rice yesterday Tuesday, where he conveyed the thanks and appreciation of the Syrian people to the American people for all their supportive efforts and aid delivered. President al-Jarba was accompanied by General Abdillilah Bashir, Chief of Staff to the Supreme Military Council and senior members of the Coalition.
President Obama and Ambassador Rice reaffirmed the United States’ support to the moderate opposition and the Syrian people in their struggle for a genuine transition to democracy.
President al-Jarba told President Obama and Ambassador Rice that he looks forward to a special relationship between the United States and the New Syria to ensure stability, peace, and international security. The Coalition’s delegation reiterated its commitment to opposing extremism in all forms and described efforts by the Free Syrian Army to counter Al Qaeda affiliates and Iranian trained foreign fighters.
The Coalition’s delegation discussed the need to empower the Syrian people to defend themselves against the war crimes committed by the regime daily and the need for more pressure against Assad to accept a political solution.
The meeting with the President was encouraging and productive. The visit to Washington was a milestone for a new era in relations between the United States and the Syrian people towards establishing continuous coordination and cooperation in ending the Syrian people’s suffering, establishing democracy, and countering extremism.
May our wounded recover, our detainees be free, and our fallen heroes rest in peace.
