Alleviating the Suffering of the Syrian People

The Syrian Coalition has repeatedly called for breaking the siege on different areas across Syria where Assad’s forces prevent the access of food, water, and medicine. The Coalition also called for unfettered access of humanitarian aid to those in need. Thousands of civilians live in extremely terrible conditions in areas where the United Nations fails to deliver assistance.

Lifting the siege and allowing humanitarian and relief convoys unrestricted access are among the most urgent goals the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition will continue to press for securing those legitimate rights. It will do whatever possible to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people and expose the cruel practices of the Assad regime.

We have learned from the international community that there have been talks with the Russians on the delivery of relief assistance to areas under siege. There was also a discussion of the possibility of holding a meeting of experts between technicians and relief workers from the Coalition’s Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU) and technicians from the regime, in addition to experts from United Nations organizations. This is a completely humanitarian issue, and the relief of the Syrian people’s suffering is one of the Coalition’s top priorities.

The Coalition’s leadership has expressed its willingness to send a delegation of technicians and relief workers from the ACU to discuss, with the United Nations, the International Federation of the Red Cross, and possibly the Syrian Red Crescent, the various ways of allowing relief convoys and international humanitarian organizations access into Syria. Logistics and technical details will also be discussed with international parties concerned with the humanitarian situation in Syria, and an international form to force the regime to show compliance in this regard will have to be reached.

We have made it clear to the international community that the delegation to be formed will not include political figures from the Coalition. Until this moment, however, the Coalition has not received a formal or informal request, directly or indirectly, form the Russians in this regard.
