The Syrian Coalition Condemns Execution of Soldiers

July 28, 2013
The Syrian Coalition and the Syrian Military Council condemn, in the strongest possible terms, infringements of the Geneva Conventions and all other violations of human rights conventions.
According to a video posted on the Internet, a number of soldiers have been executed in Khan Al Assal, Aleppo. The Coalition condemns this act and declares the formation of a commission of inquiry to investigate the incident. All those involved in such crimes will be held accountable.
Initial reports indicate the involvement of armed groups, not affiliated with the Syrian Military Council. The Free Syrian Army’s military and medical units in Khan Al Assal fully collaborated with the Red Crescent to evacuate the wounded and move the bodies of the dead, in accordance with Geneva Conventions.
The Syrian Coalition’s commitment to international conventions and charters is unquestionable. However, the Friends of Syria must also play a role in ensuring that groups seeking to exploit the chaos perpetuated by the Assad regime do not repeat such incidents. This can be best accomplished by providing support to the Syrian revolution and the Syrian Military Council, who are strive to achieve the aspirations of the Syria people for freedom and dignity.
