Aid Delivery into Parts of Syria
Media Statement
Syrian Coalition
Istanbul, Turkey
July 27, 2013
The Syrian Coalition stresses that Syrian people are all equal, and that discrimination in terms of humanitarian assistance is completely unacceptable. The Coalition rejects Assad's policy of collective punishment and reiterates that the welfare of all citizens is one of the Coalition’s top priorities.
The Coalition’s Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU) has confirmed that it has directed “the delivery of more than $14 million in humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people of all religious, political and denominational backgrounds.”
The Coalition will firmly deal with any breach of equality in aid distribution, contrary to Assad's continued infringement of conventions and agreements in order to remain in power.
The ACU has indicated that “security concerns prevent the expansion of the scope of assistance to reach areas under the control of the Assad regime.”
“We do not have any security concerns when it comes to aid delivery into areas under control of FSA,” the ACU stated.
The Syrian Coalition contacted Ahrar Al Sham, who are currently besieging Aleppo’s Central Prison, and they confirmed that all humanitarian assistance is being permitted into the prison through the Red Crescent. The Red Crescent has pledged to protect relief teams and also confirmed its assistance of the delivery of relief aid from the Red Cross, in the past few days.
We ask for mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.
Long live Syria and its people, free and with honor.
