US Secretary of State, John Kerry, has declared that his country has "come late" to peace efforts in Syria and warned about the risks of Syria fragmenting. Kerry’s remarks come as part of an attempt to pave the way towards a solution, despite the fact that the US, as he admits, has helped contribute to the deteriorating situation in Syria by limiting its role to observer and underpinning the international community's refusal to bear responsibility for the acts of the oppressive regime.

The principles of the Syrian revolution have always been about freedom and the Syrian people have never bargained over the unity of their land, and will never do so. They have chosen dignity and independence, sacrificing thousands of innocent martyrs to allow their children to live free and prosper. The Syrian people desire to become contributing global citizens in a free and civilized world.

Any political solution that fails to halt the attacks on civilians in Syria will not only embolden Assad to keep killing, but will also undermine the pledges offered by the international community. Such directions will lead to possibilities that are not in anyone's interest.

We ask for mercy for our martyrs, health for our wounded, and freedom for our detainees.
