Statement on the Remarks made by UN Secretary General Spokesperson, Martin Nesirky’s
Media Statement

May 2st 2013
It is most unfortunate that two years into the revolution, there are still those who await positive responses from the regime. The Assad regime’s so-called pending approval of the chemical weapons investigation team means nothing more than a lack of commitment to uncovering the truth. Today’s news reports include requirements and conditions that the Assad regime has outlined for the investigation team to fulfill in order to enter the country. This will only derail the mission and turn the investigation into nothing more than perjury of the facts.
Considering the murderous and deceitful track record of the Assad regime, the only legitimate, and impartial way an investigation can take place is through the help of the Syrian Coalition. The Syrian Coalition is capable of transporting the investigation team to the desired areas, and ensuring an impartial investigation.
We urge the international community to fulfill its duties and to be stern against the Assad regime’s consistent breaking of international laws. The broken laws range from violations against freedom of speech, to the regime’s latest use of chemical weapons against civilian communities across Syria.
The Syrian Coalition regrets that the investigation team must await an impossible approval from the Assad regime, as it continues to break international laws, violate rights, and terrorize people.
