In a Telephone Communication with the Syrian F.M: OIC Secretary General calls for Dialogue and Speedy Implementation of Announced Reforms.
Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference had a telephone conversation with the Foreign Minister of The Arab Republic of Syria, Mr. Walid El Meallem, in which they discussed the current developments in Syria. The Secretary General indicated that the OIC was following with deep concern the violent events witnessed in a number of cities in Syria, expressed his profound sorrow at the large number of deaths and injuries, and renewed the OIC’s consistent stand in favor of restraint and non use of violence, together with the need for an early implementation of the reforms recently announced by the Syrian Government and a prompt engagement in a constructive dialogue with the national forces for the benefit of achieving the Syrian people’s legitimate demands so as to guard the country against further danger and violence. On his part, Syrian Foreign Minister, Mr Walid Meallem, reaffirmed the Syrian leadership’s determination to press ahead with the reform program and to honour its commitments within the framework of its keen interest in consolidating security, stability and development in the country. Mr. Walid further pointed out that the national dialogue was ongoing with all parties who hold the interest of Syria at heart.
