OIC General Secretariat Expresses Deep Regret Over Security Council’s Failure To Agree On Syria

The General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed deep regret over failure of the Security Council to reach an agreement on the draft resolution on Syria, sponsored by the Kingdom of Morocco on behalf of the Arab League. The draft resolution called for resolution of the crisis in Syria and immediate cessation of all acts of violence. The General Secretariat also expressed its hope that inability of the Security Council to adopt a resolution on the Syrian crisis would not lead to further casualties in Syria. The General Secretariat warned that the danger of worsening crisis in Syria may lead to a civil war that would threaten the peace, security and stability of Syria and the entire region. Meanwhile, the General Secretariat condemned the ongoing acts of violence which left behind many casualties among innocent people in Homs. It called on the Syrian government to focus on political solution as the best way to resolve the Syrian crisis and to embark on the promised reforms as a way of meeting the hopes and aspirations of the Syrian people for reform and change.
