المجلس الوطني السوري يجتمع مع وزيرة الخارجية الأمريكية هيلاري كلينتون

التقى وفد من المجلس الوطني السوري برئاسة الدكتور برهان غليون رئيس المجلس، وزيرة الخارجية الأمريكية هيلاري كلينتون ووفد وزارة الخارجية المرافق وذلك في جنيف، سويسرا يوم الثلاثاء السادس من كانون الثاني/ديسمبر ٢٠١١ واستمر اللقاء لحوالي ساعتين تمت فيه مناقشة الملف السوري بكل تفاصيله

 عبرت وزيرة الخارجية عن احترامها لجهود المجلس الوطني السوري في لم شمل المعارضة السورية وتوحيد جهودها رغم التحديات الكبيرة، وأشادت بالجهود التي بذلها المجلس الوطني مع الجامعة العربية وصولاً إلى القرار بتعليق عضوية النظام السوري وفرض عقوبات اقتصادية ومالية عليه. وناقش الوفد الأمريكي خطة المجلس للمرحلة الإنتقالية وبرنامجه في إدارة شؤون البلاد بعد مرحلة سقوط نظام الأسد، وخاصة فيما يتعلق بحقوق الأقليات وضرورة تساوي جميع المواطنين أمام القانون والقَضاء

 من جهته شكر وفد المجلس موقف الولايات المتحدة من الثورة السورية وجهودها في تحشيد الموقف الدولي، وشرح الدكتور غليون بأن الثورة السورية ثورة حرية وكرامة وليست ثورة جياع، وأن الشعب السوري شعب متسامح ويتميز تاريخه بتعايش سلمي بين جميع مكونات المجتمع وأن أبطال ثورة الاستقلال في سورية هم من جميع الطوائف وذكر بأن أول رئيس وزراء لسورية بعد الاستقلال كان مسيحياً. وأكد وفد المجلس بأن النظام السوري لن ينجو بأفعاله وجرائمه وشرح للوفد الأمريكي ما يحصل من مجازر بحق السوريين عموماً وفي محافظة حمص خصوصاً

 وطالب الدكتور وائل مرزا الوفد الأمريكي بالاعتراف الرسمي بالمجلس الوطني، وذكر بأن هذ الاعتراف يحقق ثلاثة أهداف رئيسية؛ تسريع عملية إضافة أطياف أخرى من المعارضة للمجلس، وتشجيع الأقليات أكثر على الالتفاف حول المجلس والمساعدة في ضبط عملية التحول الديمقراطي في سورية. وأعربت وزيرة الخارجية الأمريكية بأن هذا الاجتماع مع قيادة المجلس هو عبارة عن اعتراف سياسي به على طريق الاعتراف الرسمي

  واختتم اللقاء بالاتفاق على متابعة التواصل بشكل حثيث وتنسيق التعاون بين المجلس الوطني وجامعة الدول العربية ودول الاتحاد الأوربي والولايات المتحدة وخاصة فيما يتعلق ببحث سيناريوهات حماية المدنيين

The Syrian National Council Meets with US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton

A delegation from the Syrian National Council (SNC), headed by SNC president Dr. Burhan Ghalioun, met with US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and US State Department delegation, in Geneva, Switzerland on Tuesday the 2nd of December. The meeting lasted about 2 hours, during which the sides discussed all details and updates related to Syria.

 The US Secretary of State expressed her respect for the efforts of the SNC with regards to bringing together Syrian opposition fractions and the uniting efforts despite all obstacles. She also welcomed the efforts the SNC put forth with the Arab League in arriving to the decision to suspend the Syrian regime's membership and impose economic and financial sanctions on the regime. The US delegation discussed the plan of SNC for the transitional period and its political programme post-Assad, especially regarding minorities' rights and the need for equality among all citizens before the law.

 On its part, the SNC delegation expressed gratitude for the US position regarding the Syrian Revolution and the US efforts in rallying the international position. Dr. Ghalioun explaing that the Syrian Revolution is a revolution of freedom and dignity, and not of hunger, and that the Syrian people are forgiving and enjoy a history of peaceful coexistence among all groups who make up its society. Dr. Ghalioun also noted that when mentioning the heroes of independence in Syria people remember leaders from all sects and religions and that the first Prime Minister of Syria after its independence was Christian. The SNC delegation confirmed that the Syrian regime will not survive with all that it has done, and explained to the US delegation the massacres that have been committed against the Syrian people in general, and in Homs in particular.

 Dr. Wael Merza requested that the US officially recognizes the SNC, and noted that this recognition would achieve three primary goals: speeding the process of including more opposition figures within SNC, encouraging more minorities to embrace the SNC, and assisting in more controlled transitional period. The US Secretary of State responded that this meeting with the SNC leadership is a political recognition of the SNC on the path to official recognition.

 The meeting concluded with agreement to actively continue communication and coordination among the SNC, the Arab League, the European Union, and the United States, particularly with regard to examining the different scenarios for civilian’s protection.
