Syria - Statement by the Spokesperson on the establishment of the National Authority for Transitional Justice and the National Authority for Missing Persons
The EU welcomes the formation of the National Authority for Transitional Justice and the National Authority for Missing Persons in Syria. This is an important step towards the comprehensive justice and truth which the Syrian people deserve.
Efforts on transitional justice are fundamental to lay the groundwork for reconciliation and lasting peace in Syria. Investigating the fate of all missing persons will be a crucial step in bringing closure to families and communities affected.
We call on the transitional Syrian authorities to ensure that these efforts are carried out in a transparent, impartial, and inclusive manner, in line with international standards of justice. It is essential that relevant international bodies, as well as Syrian and international civil society organisations, be fully associated to these efforts. The EU continues to support the Syrian people in their journey toward peace, stability, and justice.
