Catherine Ashton following her meeting with League of Arab States

Secretary General 1abil El Araby and Joint Special Representative

to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi

The spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and

Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, issued the following statement today:

"On Monday, the High Representative met League of Arab States Secretary General abil El Araby

and Joint Special Representative to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi to discuss the latest international

attempts to find a solution to the crisis in Syria. Mr. Brahimi debriefed her on his recent visit to

Syria.

The three agreed that it is of the utmost importance that the international community works

together to bring an end to the fighting. The High Representative offered the European Union’s

unequivocal support to Mr. Brahimi’s efforts and pledged to provide him with assistance.

The High Representative also held separate in-depth consultations on Syria with U Secretary

General Ban Ki moon and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as with Iraqi Foreign

Minister Hoshyar Zebari and Jordanian Foreign Minister asser Judeh, with whom she discussed

EU assistance to refugees fleeing the fighting."
